How the University of Lorraine implemented collaborative environment based on Nextcloud and ONLYOFFICE

The University of Lorraine, a major public university in northeastern France with more than 60,000 students and 6,900 staff, needed a collaborative environment that could be hosted and managed internally across 54 sites. After testing several tools, the university looked for a secure, on-premises solution that could support file sharing, synchronization, and document collaboration while meeting GDPR and institutional security requirements. They chose Nextcloud with ONLYOFFICE Docs.

ONLYOFFICE helped the University of Lorraine deploy online document editing integrated with Nextcloud, enabling staff to work simultaneously on the same files from any browser without downloading desktop software. The result was a smoother user experience, easier administration, low resource usage, and significant time savings from collaborative editing. According to the university, the platform supported productive remote work during quarantine and kept research and academic activities running for 6,900 staff members.
