How SWITCH integrated ONLYOFFICE into SWITCHdrive to create a complete alternative to Office 365

SWITCH, the Swiss foundation behind the academic cloud service SWITCHdrive, needed a secure web office solution that would let users edit documents in one place instead of switching between multiple apps. They were also looking for a privacy-friendly alternative to Google Docs and Office 365 for universities and other users handling sensitive data.

SWITCH integrated ONLYOFFICE Docs into SWITCHdrive via ownCloud, running it on their own servers in Docker containers within SWITCH’s Swiss data center. The result was seamless document collaboration with strong compatibility for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files, helping keep data in Switzerland and reducing concerns about storing sensitive files abroad; SWITCH reported that collaborative editing became the most-used feature and said they would recommend ONLYOFFICE.
