How Sea-Watch organizes secure collaboration for a distributed team with ONLYOFFICE and Nextcloud

Sea-Watch, a non-profit civilian sea rescue initiative, needed a more secure and privacy-conscious way to collaborate as its team and volunteer network grew. After using several free tools, the organization looked for a self-hosted, open-source alternative that could support document sharing and editing for distributed users while meeting security and data protection requirements. ONLYOFFICE Docs, used together with Nextcloud, was selected to provide that familiar browser-based environment.

With ONLYOFFICE and Nextcloud, Sea-Watch created a single secure workspace for collaborative document and spreadsheet editing, comments, version history, complex tables, and day-to-day office work. ONLYOFFICE helped Sea-Watch replace Microsoft Office on computers and support teamwork across 90 employees and 400 volunteers worldwide. The organization also reported that it had already rescued over 38,000 people, though no direct software-specific numeric performance gain was provided.
