Case Study: Vancouver Airport achieves secure, highly available AWS migration with Onica

A Onica Case Study

Preview of the Vancouver Airport Case Study

Transition of all YVR customer airports from the on-premise system to AWS

Vancouver Airport Authority’s Innovative Travel Solutions (ITS) needed to migrate its self-service border-control system from an on-premises data center to AWS while maintaining high availability, scalability, strong security, and disaster recovery. Onica was brought in early to consult on the migration and recommend the cloud platform and services needed for the workload.

Onica implemented an AWS-based solution using Amazon EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling Groups, Amazon S3, Amazon RDS, CloudWatch, and multi-Availability Zone and multi-region designs for production and disaster recovery. The migration of YVR customer airports to AWS was a complete success, with additional airport rollouts already underway, and the system has now supported more than 100 million passengers while giving ITS the ability to resize and scale quickly as demand grows.
