A Onica Case Study
BC Hydro, a major Canadian electric utility, needed a cloud-based way to accelerate complex power generation output models while keeping security high and costs low. The company partnered with Onica to build an AWS-based cloud infrastructure and serverless computation solution for this on-demand workload.
Onica implemented an automated, secure AWS environment that could spin up 216 CPUs in 10–15 minutes, deploy data and code in five minutes, run the model in 10–12 minutes, and then shut down in 5–10 minutes. The result was a highly cost-efficient process with an estimated run cost of about $10, making BC Hydro’s newest models economically feasible and much faster to execute.
