A Onica Case Study
From chemical supplier to managed services provider
FRAC-CHEM, a Louisiana-based oilfield chemical manufacturer and wholesale supplier, wanted to strengthen its market position by moving from selling liquid chemicals to offering fully managed services. To support that shift, the company partnered with Onica to develop an IoT prototype for its dry chemical hydration system, aimed at monitoring quality, consistency, usage optimization, and failure risk.
Onica built a custom end-to-end solution including hardware, firmware, software, and cloud infrastructure. The system collects data from the hydration unit, sends it to AWS services, and displays it in a web dashboard for real-time monitoring and adjustments. The prototype was successfully installed and shipped to a customer site, where it has been transmitting data continuously, helping FRAC-CHEM improve quality control, optimize costs, enable real-time billing, and strengthen its managed services offering.
