Edwards Lifesciences, a global leader in patient-focused medical innovations for structural heart disease, needed to modernize a sprawling, aging IT environment with more than 2,000 servers across traditional data centers. The company turned to Onica and AWS to tackle the challenge of migrating critical ERP, product lifecycle management, and manufacturing execution systems to the cloud.

Working with Onica, Edwards Lifesciences used AWS services including Direct Connect and Snowball, along with CloudEndure, to move applications in tightly managed “move groups” and migrate 50 to 75 servers at a time. In just three months, the company moved every production business-critical application into AWS, improved security, reliability, and response times, and eliminated production systems from the old environment—while also boosting employee morale and gaining clearer visibility into AWS usage and spend.
