Architecting a Secure and Scalable Environment on AWS

Orange County Registrar of Voters (OCROV), the government agency responsible for serving 1.6 million registered voters in Orange County, California, needed to migrate its website to AWS and build a development environment that could handle sudden traffic spikes during election cycles. Before working with Onica, the agency faced recurring issues with its website provider and insufficient support, creating the need for a more secure, highly available, and scalable solution.

Onica implemented a secure AWS environment using cloud migration and cloud infrastructure services, including Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling, Amazon Aurora RDS, AWS CloudFormation, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon EFS, and AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store. Onica also built a development environment, set up automation and monitoring, and provided training and managed support through Cloud OpsPilot. The result was a flexible platform that could scale to voter demand without over-provisioning, improved security and reliability, and a successful migration completed in time for the 2018 election.
