Thales's SafeNet Trusted Access Helps Prevent Employee Identity Theft at VUMC

Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a large academic medical center in Nashville managing more than 2 million patient visits a year, faced daily phishing campaigns aimed at stealing employee credentials to access sensitive HR data. To stop unauthorized access to its self-service human resources portal, VUMC selected Thales OneWelcome and its cloud-based SafeNet Trusted Access solution along with SafeNet MobilePASS (and hardware token options) to add strong multifactor authentication.

Thales OneWelcome implemented SafeNet Trusted Access and MobilePASS, requiring MFA for access to direct deposit, tax information and personal profiles (with MFA already deployed for DEA e‑prescribing a year earlier). The deployment gave VUMC flexible software and hardware authenticators, helped protect employee data integrity, mitigated identity-theft and phishing risks, and enabled the organization to expand MFA to additional systems—reducing the likelihood of compromised records and security breaches.
