Police Department Addresses CJIS Compliance with Thales Strong Authentication

Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) — the FBI’s central criminal‑justice data repository relied on by a large U.S. metropolitan police department — needed stronger, CJIS‑compliant authentication for officers accessing sensitive records remotely without adding user friction. To meet that mandate, the department worked with Thales OneWelcome and adopted Thales’ SafeNet Authentication Solutions, including eTokenPASS and SafeNet MobilePASS, supported by Thales professional services to minimize changes to officers’ workflows.

Thales OneWelcome implemented multi‑factor authentication with OTP tokens and mobile authenticators plus centralized token management and seamless integration into existing Windows/GINA environments. As a result, the department strengthened defenses against unauthorized access, achieved and maintained CJIS compliance, avoided user retraining or disruptive login changes, and delivered a cost‑effective, low‑impact rollout that preserved fast, convenient access for officers.
