Preview of the European Central Bank Case Study

How identity management protects the European financial system

The European Central Bank (ECB), the prudential supervisor for banks in the Eurozone, needed a single, EU‑resident identity and access management platform that meets Zero Trust security and strict delegation requirements to control access to its supervisory portal. Facing a large, diverse user base and multiple applications, the ECB selected Thales OneWelcome to deliver the centralized IAM and mobile authentication capabilities.

Thales OneWelcome implemented a centralized Identity Platform with fine‑grained access controls and delegated administration so supervised banks can invite and manage users while the ECB retains oversight, and added the OneWelcome Mobile Identity SDK with multi‑factor authentication for secure app logins, messaging and transaction signing. The solution consolidated access across seven applications onto one platform, secured roughly 10,000 users, reduced ECB administrative burden, and preserved EU data residency and Zero Trust compliance.
