Case Study: The World Bank achieves stronger data protection and streamlined privacy operations with OneTrust

A OneTrust Case Study

Preview of the The World Bank Case Study

The World Bank Protects Privacy While Alleviating Poverty

The World Bank, the world’s largest development institution with staff in 170 countries and thousands of projects, needed to protect highly sensitive personal data collected for surveys, refugee resettlement, COVID-19 work and borrower verification while maintaining trust and external accountability. After initially tracking processing activities in spreadsheets, The World Bank ran an RFP and selected OneTrust to support its self-imposed Data Privacy Framework, deploying OneTrust modules including Data Mapping, PIA/DPIA and Data Subject Access Request (DSAR).

OneTrust’s cloud platform automated records of processing, provided PIA/DPIA templates to operationalize privacy-by-design across global teams, and enabled a DSAR portal to streamline requests — replacing unsustainable manual processes and making privacy tasks accessible to staff in offices worldwide. As a result, The World Bank centralized and standardized privacy workflows, improved risk identification and accountability, and can more efficiently manage DSARs and compliance activities using OneTrust’s solutions.
