A OneSpan Case Study
Raiffeisen Bank (through its Raiffeisen Italy group overseeing 40 member banks) needed to comply with PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication—specifically Dynamic Linking and Replication Protection—while replacing a cumbersome token-based system and improving the mobile customer experience. The bank selected OneSpan and its Mobile Security Suite (including Cronto visual cryptograms and app-shielding/runtime protection) to enable smartphone-based authentication with PIN and biometric options like Face ID/Touch ID.
OneSpan implemented transaction signing via Cronto and integrated mobile app shielding from the OneSpan Mobile Security Suite, enabling secure, hardware-free authentication on customers’ phones. The deployment delivered PSD2 compliance well ahead of the September 2019 deadline, high activation and adoption rates, positive customer feedback and a revitalized perception of Raiffeisen Bank as an innovative provider, and made the bank one of the first in Italy to use app shielding for replication protection.
