South African Bank Eliminates Remote Access Security Concerns

Standard Bank, a leading South African banking group with a global footprint, faced rising internet security threats and found traditional static passwords inadequate to secure remote access for branch offices and employees. To address this, Standard Bank selected OneSpan and its Digipass GO 3 two‑factor authentication solution (with plans to adopt the OneSpan Authentication Server) to provide stronger, scalable remote access security.

OneSpan deployed Digipass GO 3 devices and the OneSpan authentication software on redundant servers, enabling employees to log in with dynamic, time‑based passwords without client software. The rollout now supports over 800 active users, delivered a 100% increase in VPN accounts in 12 months, significantly reduced exposure to password misuse, prevented unauthorized access to confidential data, and achieved high user acceptance while remaining cost‑effective.
