A OneSpan Case Study
Sony Bank, a Japanese direct bank, needed to launch a secure mobile banking app that protected customers and transactions while running invisibly in the background and meeting regulatory requirements. To address risks like device compromise and Man‑in‑the‑Middle attacks without degrading the user experience, Sony Bank relied on OneSpan, extending its long-standing use of Digipass hardware tokens and adopting OneSpan’s Mobile Security Suite for app shielding, biometric authentication and transaction signing.
OneSpan implemented the Mobile Security Suite (formerly DIGIPASS for Apps) to provide app shielding with runtime protection, biometric login, and transaction signing, and Sony Bank leveraged its existing OneSpan Authentication Server to support software tokens—reducing development work and accelerating time‑to‑market. The deployment was described as quick and easy to implement, enabled face and fingerprint recognition for customers, helped defend the app against attacks, and delivered cost and speed benefits that contributed to high customer ratings.
