How We Added Risk‑based Authentication to our Mobile Experience

Orange Money Romania, a mobile-only e-money institution of the Orange Group, needed to replace its in‑house security to meet PSD2 strong customer authentication (SCA) requirements without adding friction to the user experience. To balance regulatory compliance, fraud prevention and a seamless mobile UX, Orange Money Romania chose OneSpan and its Intelligent Adaptive Authentication (IAA) solution to modernize transaction authentication and risk monitoring.

OneSpan implemented IAA — combining OneSpan Risk Analytics, Cloud Authentication and mobile SDKs — to deliver real‑time, risk‑based authentication that adapts MFA prompts to transaction risk. The solution was deployed via cloud APIs and mobile SDKs with OneSpan-led training and a phased UAT/beta rollout; within one month 99% of active users had updated to the new security flow, customers self-served through migration with no large call‑center spike, and Orange Money Romania gained stronger fraud prevention while preserving a smooth customer experience.
