Case Study: Odeabank achieves seamless mobile authentication, reduced SIM‑swap fraud and regulatory compliance with OneSpan

A OneSpan Case Study

Preview of the Odeabank Case Study

How the bank improved user experience and security, while reducing SIM swap and other fraud attacks

Odeabank, a top-10 private sector deposit bank in Turkey, needed to improve customer experience and strengthen defenses against SIM-swap and other social‑engineering fraud while meeting new Turkish regulations. To secure its high-volume digital channels (about 90% of transactions) the bank partnered with OneSpan and integrated the OneSpan Mobile Security Suite and software OTP/push authentication into its mobile banking app.

OneSpan’s SDK binds the authenticator to the customer’s registered device and delivers OTPs via push notifications instead of SMS. Rolled out initially to several thousand users and later expanded more than five-fold, the solution let Odeabank capture fraud attempts before customers were harmed, earned positive customer feedback, supported compliance with Turkey’s 2020 banking regulations, and helped drive adoption (today roughly 90% of online banking users also use the mobile app), materially reducing SIM‑swap risk.
