City Secures Logon With Onespan Mobile Authenticator SMS

The City of Copenhagen needed to protect citizens’ confidential information and secure remote access to its internal network and Outlook Web Access by replacing static passwords with one‑time passwords sent to employees’ mobile phones. To meet this challenge they worked with OneSpan, initially deploying Digipass devices and OneSpan Authentication Server and later adopting OneSpan Mobile Authenticator SMS for a more user‑friendly mobile solution.

OneSpan implemented two‑factor authentication using the OneSpan Authentication Server and Mobile Authenticator SMS (with earlier Digipass options as needed), sending time‑limited OTPs by SMS after users enter their static password. The solution scaled to about 6,600 SMS users, was favorably received, reduced total cost of ownership, increased employee acceptance through mobile usability, and limited OTP reuse risk by enforcing short token validity.
