GoDaddy’s EVP of Global Platform Development Shares 6 Global Growth Tactics

GoDaddy, under EVP James Carroll (hired 2013 to lead Global Platform Development), faced the challenge of transforming a U.S.-centric domain and web services business into a true global brand. The company needed to serve international customers properly—handling local payments, support, and culturally relevant experiences—rather than relying on ad hoc workarounds from foreign users trying to access the U.S. site.

GoDaddy executed a tight global plan: prioritize markets, build global-ready platforms and processes (including a TMS), and mobilize cross-functional local teams for legal, finance, marketing, ops and customer care—illustrated by a localized TV campaign and local support in India. In three years they launched in 125 countries across 56 markets and 30+ languages, support 43 currencies, and grew international paying users to over 7 million (≈40% of users), becoming the world’s largest domain registrar and significantly accelerating growth.
