Allied World Assurance Company, which acquired Darwin Professional Underwriters, is a global provider of property & casualty and professional liability products. As a fast-growing start-up, Darwin/Allied World needed a flexible, tool-based platform to deliver high automation across a multi-tiered distribution channel, be nimble in launching unique products, and drastically shorten a historically 30‑day underwriting process. To meet those needs they implemented OneShield Policy.

OneShield provided a configurable policy administration and underwriting engine that Allied World could operate largely in-house. Within six months Allied World was configuring 80% of the application; within a year they rolled out 15 new products and reduced an industry-standard 30‑day process to about 10 minutes. Built around OneShield Policy, the I‑Bind solution lets select agents rate, quote and bind certain E&S risks in under 15 minutes, more than 40% of D&O/E&O/GL policies are bound with little or no underwriter intervention, and early use of I‑Bind helped double written premium in its initial years.
