Case Study: Releaf digitizes farmer payments and expands financial access with OnePipe

A OnePipe Case Study

Preview of the Releaf Case Study

Releaf leverages digital financial services to increase the financial well-being of its partner farmers while improving its own operations

Releaf, an agricultural sourcing and processing company in Nigeria, works with over 1,800 smallholder farmers and had been paying them in cash. This created operational inefficiencies and risk for Releaf, while also limiting farmers’ access to formal financial services such as credit and savings. OnePipe helped address this challenge by connecting Releaf to digital financial services through standardised APIs.

Using OnePipe’s integration with partner banks and a digital lender, Releaf was able to issue and brand bank accounts as Releaf Wallets through a USSD shortcode, with no paperwork or bank visits required. Farmers now receive payments directly into these accounts and can also withdraw cash, buy discounted airtime, build a digital transaction history for loans, and start savings plans. The result, driven by OnePipe, was the digitization of farmer payouts, reduced operational inefficiency and risk, and improved financial access for smallholder farmers.
