Virgin Hyperloop Enables Secure, User-friendly Access to its IT/OT Environment Using OneLogin for Remote Desktop Gateway

Virgin Hyperloop, the company behind the world’s first large-scale hyperloop tests at its DevLoop facility, faced a security challenge as it shifted to a hybrid work model: engineers needed remote access to operational technology (OT) systems that were traditionally open and onsite, while IT needed to enforce strong controls. Existing segmentation and VPN approaches were insufficient for protecting hundreds of sensors, test rigs and industrial devices feeding critical data during rapid development cycles.

Virgin Hyperloop deployed OneLogin for Microsoft Remote Desktop Gateway with MFA and session collections (pooled “jump box” VMs) to place authentication and role-based access in front of every OT connection. The result: secure, auditable remote access that’s easy to scale (four VMs today), allows contractors and engineers direct access to test rigs to run their own reports, reduces IT overhead, and enforces least-privilege controls without hindering usability.
