How Human Rights Campaign Used Peer-to-Peer to Go Virtual with Ambassadors

Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a national LGBTQ advocacy nonprofit, faced the loss of its signature in-person National Dinner and dozens of local galas when COVID-19 struck and needed a fast way to engage supporters and sustain fundraising. HRC partnered with OneCause and adopted the OneCause Peer-to-Peer solution (building on prior use of OneCause Mobile Bidding) to pivot its gala model into a virtual, ambassador-driven campaign.

Using OneCause, HRC launched an “Equality Captains” peer-to-peer program with personal fundraising pages, social sharing, text/email asks, leaderboards, milestone badges and weekly engagement tasks, culminating in a national livestream. The OneCause-powered campaign delivered measurable impact: 486 Equality Captains, 26 teams, 1,965 donations, a 6 million social media reach and 109% of goal—demonstrating OneCause’s role in enabling a successful virtual fundraising shift.
