Creating a Successful Virtual Event with Community & Engagement

GiGi’s Playhouse Twin Cities, the Minneapolis chapter of the national nonprofit supporting people with Down syndrome, faced the loss of its largest annual fundraiser when COVID‑19 forced events online. To preserve community engagement and revenue, they partnered with OneCause and relied on the OneCause Mobile Bidding platform to rethink ticketing, auctions and donor communication for a fully virtual gala.

OneCause implemented Mobile Bidding features (VIP ticketing, the Covered Costs option, and an extended online auction window) alongside targeted outreach, pre‑ and post‑event communications, and community partnerships. The result: about 1,000 supporters, $114K in ticketing revenue, 157% of silent auction value, $2.5K from Covered Costs, and 109% of their overall goal—demonstrating a successful, measurable virtual fundraising pivot with OneCause.
