A One Identity Case Study
UK Parliament’s Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS) supports the House of Commons, House of Lords and parliamentary staff but was struggling with inefficient Active Directory (AD) management. Manual joiners‑movers‑leavers (JML) processes, manually controlled privileged access (PAM), and limited hybrid cloud support created security risk and consumed many hours each month across a landscape of more than 2,000 permanent staff and 100–200 monthly joiners/leavers. To address this, PDS engaged One Identity and its One Identity Active Roles product.
One Identity implemented Active Roles workflows and PowerShell modules to replace thousands of lines of scripts, automating JML (including HR integration for automatic provisioning/deprovisioning) and PAM with time‑bound access controls, audit trails and web‑portal approvals. The solution freed up hours each month for strategic work like hybrid AD/Azure AD migration and threat analysis, handled Zoom licensing for pandemic-era meetings, improved visibility for auditors, and enforced automatic removal of elevated permissions — delivering measurable operational and security improvements for the UK Parliament.
