The Sustainable City - Customer Case Study

The Sustainable City, developed by Diamond Developers and supported by SEE Institute, is an award-winning mixed-use and residential project in Dubai built to become the city’s first operational Net Zero Energy community. Its challenge was to measure and reduce embodied carbon in line with the ILFI Zero Carbon certification, despite limited regional data, inconsistent EPD availability, and broader industry gaps in LCA expertise and policy.

Using One Click LCA for net zero and embodied carbon assessment, the team performed a whole-building life cycle assessment, compared material and system options, and identified hotspots for reduction. The project used optimized structural design, prefabrication, local sourcing, low-carbon concrete with up to 60% GGBS, and 97% recycled-content steel, helping reduce embodied carbon to 450 kgCO₂e/m², below the 500 kgCO₂e/m² benchmark, with remaining emissions to be disclosed and offset.
