Case Study: Stantec achieves lower embodied carbon with One Click LCA

Stantec, a global design and engineering firm, needed a better way to educate clients and teams on embodied carbon and evaluate low-carbon options early in design. The challenge was especially important for complex projects where sustainability had to be balanced with structure, cost, and aesthetics. One Click LCA supported Stantec’s Carbon Impact group with LCA analysis and embodied carbon insights.

Using One Click LCA, Stantec analyzed multiple concrete mix options, worked with engineers and suppliers to develop custom EPDs, and assessed low-carbon strategies such as higher fly ash and SCM content, lower water-to-cement ratios, and recycled CO2 injection. One Click LCA’s databases, visual reporting, GLA module, and Carbon Designer tool helped Stantec work across regions and standards. On the UCSF clinic project, the approach delivered around 33% embodied carbon savings for concrete compared with the baseline design.
