Haptic cuts façade embodied carbon 20% with One Click LCA

Haptic, a London, Oslo, and Bilbao-based architectural studio, faced the challenge of transforming a 1970s office building at 300 Gray’s Inn Road into a sustainable, low-carbon exemplar. Their key challenge was to design beyond statutory requirements while adhering to a retention-first strategy and minimizing embodied carbon, with a particular focus on the new building façade. They used One Click LCA to conduct embodied carbon assessments from the project's critical early stages.

Using One Click LCA, Haptic was able to break down the façade elements to identify carbon hotspots and evaluate sustainable material alternatives. This enabled them to design a high-performance façade with low embodied carbon. For a typical commercial bay, this approach resulted in an upfront embodied carbon estimate of 82.3 kgCO₂/m², which was 20% below their element-level target, successfully embedding their sustainability principles into the design.
