A One Click LCA Case Study
Efem Arkitektkontor, together with Topo Arkitekter and with support from Sweden’s Boverket, explored how to use life cycle assessment early in the building design process to reduce the climate impact of a one-family house for a 2–3 person household. Their challenge was to find a way to design a smaller, flexible, long-life home that still delivered the usability, daylight, and adaptability of a larger house while aiming for a 75% reduction in climate impact.
Using One Click LCA, Efem Arkitektkontor evaluated different construction concepts in the early design stage, comparing foundation, frame, and envelope options based on generic data for modules A1–A3 and B6–B7. One Click LCA helped them quickly test material choices and lifespans, showing that smaller building size and high-quality, long-lasting materials significantly lowered emissions and improved long-term economics. By combining simplified BIM inputs from Revit with ready-made construction types in One Click LCA, they were able to assess alternatives efficiently and support a design strategy that reduced material use and climate impact.
