City of Montreal reduces whole-life carbon with One Click LCA through early-stage scenario modeling

The City of Montréal needed to compare early design concepts for a major urban mobility redevelopment project before detailed designs were available. Their challenge was to make strategic, climate-aligned decisions without having material specifications. To achieve this, they worked with AECOM, who utilized One Click LCA's Carbon Designer 3D to provide reliable whole-life carbon insights from the outset.

One Click LCA's solution enabled early carbon modeling and rapid scenario testing, which identified embodied carbon as the largest source of emissions. The analysis pinpointed carbon hotspots and informed targeted recommendations, including optimized concrete mixes and increased recycled steel content. This data-driven approach gave the City of Montréal the confidence to select lower-carbon, cost-effective design options and establish a clear decarbonization roadmap for the project.
