A OnBase Case Study
Sharp HealthCare, a San Diego–based not-for-profit integrated delivery system repeatedly named to Hospitals & Health Networks’ “Most Wired” list, has a long record of early IT adoption. After a successful ECM pilot in its claims department, Sharp faced the challenge of expanding enterprise content management across hospitals and departments, integrating unstructured paper records with a new Cerner EMR and other core systems to reduce paper, improve access, and accelerate EMR adoption.
Sharp deployed OnBase by Hyland, uploading unstructured content before EMR go-lives, integrating documents with Cerner, automating workflows, and adding mobile and point-of-care scanning. The initiative delivered a single source of patient information in the EMR, eliminated roughly 100,000 monthly paper claims and saved about $70,000/month in the claims area, boosted clinical adoption (one hospital reached 96% CPOE), streamlined processes enterprise-wide, and strengthened disaster recovery and compliance.
