Miami Valley Young Marines, the Dayton, Ohio unit of the national Young Marines program, teaches boys and girls (ages 8 through high school) leadership, teamwork and drug-free living while running a packed calendar of community service, trainings, drills and camping. Keeping members and parents informed was labor-intensive and unreliable—the group relied on a slow phone tree that often missed people and generated repeated follow-up calls.
At a volunteer leader’s recommendation they adopted the One Call Now messaging app and have used it for 12 years to send voice, email and text messages (including a weekly mini‑newsletter) and targeted subgroup alerts, each with a link to the events calendar. The result: timely, reliable communication, fewer parent inquiries, happier families, and easier, more focused outreach (including giving youth leaders messaging responsibilities).
