The customer, EBERHARD, a manufacturer of precision tooling components, faced the challenge of integrating a modern web shop with its 30-year-old legacy COBOL ERP system. They needed real-time access to over 10,000 items and customer-specific prices for more than 2,000 clients. The vendor, Omnis, via its partner usoft GmbH, was tasked with creating a solution that required minimal maintenance, high availability, and browser compatibility.

The solution was implemented by Omnis using its Omnis Studio technology and JavaScript Client. A prototype was ready in two weeks, with full completion in just six weeks. The web shop, named GENESIS, connected to the COBOL system via ODBC. This resulted in the processing of over 35,000 orders, significant time savings for sales, and high acceptance from users. Omnis enabled the rapid development of a modern interface that successfully extended the life of the valuable legacy application.
