Case Study: Anne Arundel Community College achieves rapid, reliable campus-wide emergency alerts with Omnilert

Preparing for anything with a versatile emergency notification system

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), serving a community of about 56,000 students, staff, and faculty, needed a fast, affordable way to communicate public safety information to a highly transient population. Existing channels (website, email, phone) proved unreliable—especially when people were off-campus or en route—so AACC selected the Omnilert notification system to provide a more immediate, dependable alerting capability.

Omnilert was implemented quickly and used an opt-in model via AACC’s MyAACC portal, enabling instant SMS and targeted group messages (e.g., emergency responders, facilities crews) sent even from mobile devices. As a result, AACC can notify the entire subscribed community in minutes about homeland security issues, severe weather, school closings, and Clery Act crimes, reaching virtually everyone regardless of location and markedly improving the college’s emergency communications.
