Case Study: Delgado Community College achieves reliable, redundant emergency notifications during hurricane season with Omnilert

A Omnilert Case Study

Preview of the Delgado Community College Case Study

Alerting and Informing a commuter campus population throughout hurricane season

Delgado Community College, New Orleans’ largest and oldest community college, is a commuter institution spanning seven sites and serving about 14,500 students. Facing fast‑moving Gulf storms and a largely mobile student and staff population, DCC needed a reliable, redundant, web‑based emergency notification system and selected Omnilert to deliver text, email and voicemail alerts.

Omnilert provided an off‑site, web‑based mass notification solution with SMS redundancy and multi‑channel delivery; DCC used it to send evacuation, closure and reopening notices while staff operated from an Emergency Operations Center. The deployment boosted opt‑in enrollment from roughly 2,000 to nearly 7,000 students ahead of Hurricane Gustav and was used in multiple alerts during Hurricanes Fay, Gustav and Ike (including four alerts during Ike), helping keep students and staff informed and enabling organized closures and recovery.
