Richmond Police Department Improves Evidence Management Procedures with Barcode Technology

Richmond Police Department faced an audit finding that its property and evidence workflow was duplicative and paper-driven, making recordkeeping, reporting, court retrieval, and disposition difficult. The department selected a solution delivered by QueTel (now part of Omnigo) — deploying Evidence TraQ as part of Omnigo Physical and Digital Evidence to replace paper vouchers and automate data capture.

Omnigo provided a complete package of software, barcode labels and scanners, installation, and training, customizing Evidence TraQ to RPD terminology and building a front-end for electronic invoices, auto-population for firearms/cash fields, and captured officer signatures. The implementation streamlined data entry, enabled barcode tracking and uploads for inventory, simplified disposition and reporting, and materially improved the department’s ability to locate and manage evidence for court and audits.
