NOV, the Houston-based energy equipment and technology provider, faced major pressure after the oil and gas downturn forced significant workforce reductions and a shift from an on-prem IT model to a cloud-smart, multi-cloud environment. With a smaller security team, NOV needed to modernize identity and access management, reduce outages, and support a Zero Trust strategy while replacing aging legacy systems like Microsoft FIM and homegrown IGA tools.
Using Okta, NOV implemented Okta Workforce Identity with Single Sign-On, Universal Directory, Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication, Lifecycle Management, and Okta Workflows, plus Okta Customer Identity for external apps. Okta helped NOV replace about 60 FIM scripts, eliminate an expensive third-party contract, reduce server and maintenance costs, improve resiliency, and complete its Customer Identity deployment ahead of schedule, while enabling smoother developer collaboration and securing access for 27,000 employees.
