Slack, the collaboration platform focused on boosting productivity, faced a sprawling application landscape and growing security and compliance requirements as it prepared to go public and support more remote work. The BizTech team needed to centralize access control, reduce app sprawl (from ~450 to ~350 apps) and adopt a Zero Trust posture to meet SOX and FedRAMP standards while eliminating time-consuming manual provisioning and monitoring tasks.

Slack implemented Okta Lifecycle Management, Single Sign‑On and Workflows (plus MFA) to automate provisioning, deprovisioning and access monitoring. A workflow built in 48 hours removed daily log checks, saving roughly 150–200 hours per year, integrated 27 apps with automated Day‑One access via a Slack bot (provisioning seven core apps), and delivered stronger security, simpler audits and faster onboarding—while making remote work and reporting much easier.
