Kiva, the international nonprofit founded in 2005 to expand financial access for underserved communities, was facing growing identity and security challenges as it scaled its platform and served employees, partners, lenders, and borrowers around the world. With limited resources and increasing needs for secure access, compliance, and SSO, Kiva turned to Okta’s Workforce Identity Cloud and later Okta’s Customer Identity Cloud to replace its home-built identity system.
Okta implemented a single-vendor identity strategy that simplified authentication, strengthened security, and improved developer efficiency. The results were significant: Kiva eliminated more than 22,000 lines of code from a custom social media integration, reduced maintenance and support work, and cut time to market for new features and products by up to three months.
