Patient texting and textable forms allowed this Alabama pediatric practice to safely support their patients during the COVID-19 pandemic

Southeastern Pediatric Associates, a busy pediatric practice in Dothan, Alabama that sees roughly 300 patients a day, faced long check-in times and safety concerns from shared paper forms—problems made urgent by COVID-19. To address scheduling delays, patient dissatisfaction, and infection risk, the practice adopted OhMD’s patient and clinical communication platform, using texting and textable forms to rework their intake process.

Using OhMD, the practice implemented a “parking lot waiting room” where patients text arrival and receive prompts when to come in, and OhMD sends electronic form packets (new-patient onboarding, PHQ-9, MCHAT) to be completed beforehand. The change cut check-in time from about 15–20 minutes to 5 minutes, enabled nearly 100 messages a day, increased pre-appointment form completion, improved nurse preparedness and patient experience, and set the stage for expanded OhMD usage like post-visit surveys.
