Case Study: HSE achieves faster, more accurate health and safety data anonymisation with Ohalo Data X-Ray

Automatic anonymising and desensitising of health and safety data

The UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) faced the immense challenge of manually anonymizing and desensitizing a large volume of sensitive health and safety data stored across various structured and unstructured formats. The project was estimated to take 12.5 person-years to complete. To solve this, HSE selected Ohalo and its proprietary Data X-Ray tool to automate the discovery and redaction of sensitive information in a GDPR-compliant manner.

Ohalo implemented its Data X-Ray solution within HSE's environment to automatically process the data. The results were transformative: a task projected to take 12.5 person-years was reduced to just one machine day, representing a 4,500x reduction in time and a 49x reduction in cost. The tool successfully anonymized over 99% of the records, enabling HSE to securely share data with research partners and freeing its data science team to focus on analysis rather than data engineering.
