A&E Networks' History channel sought to develop an app for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War to engage a new generation with fresh storytelling. The channel partnered with OgilvyOne Worldwide and its strategic partner, Bottle Rocket, to tackle this challenge of creating a compelling mobile experience for a millennial audience.
OgilvyOne and Bottle Rocket developed an app that delivered the story of the Civil War through four years of daily updates, allowing users to experience events in real time. The solution included social sharing features, such as the ability to tweet telegrams in Morse code. The app became the #1 grossing entertainment app in the App Store, was featured by Apple in its "App Hall of Fame," and was widely adopted by teachers across the country for educational purposes.
