Preview of the Owens-Illinois Case Study

Owens-Illinois boosts workplace collaboration, manufacturing efficiency with Office 365

Owens‑Illinois (O‑I), a 140‑year‑old global glass container manufacturer with about 27,000 employees, needed to move from a decentralized, regional model to a single, collaborative enterprise. The company faced challenges sharing tacit manufacturing know‑how across 79 plants, standardizing best practices, improving customer and joint‑venture communication, and modernizing security and mobility for a dispersed workforce.

O‑I deployed Office 365 (including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business/Teams, Yammer, Advanced Threat Protection, and Azure Rights Management) and Surface Hub to centralize content, enable real‑time collaboration, and protect intellectual property. Results include migrating 16 TB to OneDrive with 9,000 users, more than 1 million Skype minutes, 400 PSTN conference lines, broader adoption of Manufacturing Fundamentals on SharePoint, reduced phishing risk for leaders, stronger customer collaboration, and a more cohesive, productive global organization.
