Operation Smile is a Virginia‑based nonprofit that provides free cleft‑related surgeries and care worldwide. Faced with complex, multi‑country missions and fragmented communications (email, fax, costly conference calls), the organization needed better technology to coordinate volunteers, training, and patient care so it could scale up the number of surgeries and year‑round services.
Working with Microsoft and partners, Operation Smile adopted Office 365 (Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online) plus Skype for Business, received Polycom conference devices, and used a cloud partner to accelerate deployment across 42+ countries. The new tools consolidated storage, cut long‑distance and travel costs, enabled remote training and medical collaboration, and opened the door to EMR integration and Power BI analytics—improving mission coordination and helping the nonprofit serve more children.
