India Institute Deploys 7.5 Million Office 365 Seats to Improve Governance, Learning

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which oversees technical higher education across 11,500 colleges and serves millions of students and faculty, faced the challenge of improving timely communication, consistent curriculum sharing, and governance with many remote institutions that lacked robust IT infrastructure.

AICTE chose cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Lync Online) and deployed 7.5 million seats (7 million students and 500,000 faculty) in nine months, delivering any-device email, online document collaboration, videoconferencing, and portals for payments and local communities. The rollout improved electronic governance and tracking, boosted teaching and collaboration, helped bridge the digital divide, and advanced national technology literacy while keeping IT management costs low.
