Marks & Spencer (M&S), the 130‑year‑old multinational retailer with more than 1,330 stores and 80,000 employees, needed to preserve its signature personal customer service while uniting a dispersed workforce across stores, offices and time zones. The challenge was to foster a digital mindset and mobile, flexible ways of working so colleagues could collaborate faster, share knowledge and act on customer needs in real time.
M&S deployed Microsoft Office 365—building a single mobile intranet (M&S World) on SharePoint Online and rolling out Yammer, OneDrive, Delve, Sway, Groups, Skype and Planner alongside a Store Visit app—to give employees anywhere access to content and tools. The result: faster decision‑making, richer cross‑store collaboration (20,000+ Yammer users and 500 Office 365 Groups in six months), easier access to ~40,000 documents, higher mobile productivity and more consistent, responsive customer service.
