Case Study: Caltex Australia achieves improved productivity and mobility with Microsoft Office 365

A Office 365 Case Study

Preview of the Caltex Case Study

Fuel Company Uses Online Tools to Energize Employee Communications, Drive Mobility Online Tools

Caltex Australia, a Sydney‑headquartered fuel supplier with about 3,500 employees spread across refineries, depots and retail sites, needed modern communication tools to support a dispersed, mobile workforce. Its aging on‑premises Lotus Notes email lacked reliable web access, there was no IM or web conferencing, and VPN issues and help‑desk calls were slowing productivity—so Caltex wanted better collaboration while lowering IT costs.

Caltex migrated to Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange Online, Lync Online) with Windows 7 and Office Professional Plus, working with Microsoft Cloud Vantage Services and partner Kloud Solutions to stage the change. The move—about 3,000 mailboxes migrated, 3,875 licenses acquired and 2,700 Lync users—was completed smoothly and delivered web mail, IM, conferencing and mobile access, boosting productivity and employee satisfaction, reducing travel and IT costs (avoiding roughly US$100,000 in infrastructure), and simplifying the company’s transition to the cloud.
