A OCTOPUZ Case Study
OCTOPUZ worked with the University of Waterloo through its Applications Engineer project, a learning initiative designed to help new employees and co-op students apply robotics training to a real-world machining challenge. In this case, University of Waterloo co-op student Donovan Maudsley needed to produce a curved plaque featuring his name, title, and the OCTOPUZ “O,” a part that would be difficult to machine by hand.
Using OCTOPUZ robotics software and a Fanuc LR Mate 200iD, Donovan programmed the plaque toolpaths in MasterCam 2017 and successfully milled the part on a robot rather than a CNC machine. The project delivered hands-on experience with robotic machining and highlighted the value of OCTOPUZ’s training environment; the toolpaths totaled about 23,000 points, and Donovan reported that working on a real machine was highly rewarding.
