Old World Stone - Customer Case Study

Old World Stone, a Burlington, Ontario-based provider of custom cut stone, faced growing pressure from lower-cost competition and needed a faster, more efficient way to produce its traditional craft in North America. To help solve this challenge, the company turned to OCTOPUZ robot programming software for support in automating part of its stone-carving workflow.

Using OCTOPUZ, Old World Stone programmed a KUKA 120-R27000 Extra HA Quantec robot to handle the roughing-out process with different milling bits, reducing the need for manual labor on the most physically demanding tasks. The result was a safer, cleaner operation with less dust and wear on employees, and production time dropped from four to five days per piece to about one and a half days. OCTOPUZ also helped free skilled workers for finishing work and supported the hiring of new apprentices.
