Case Study: Stack Overflow achieves standardized Config as Code and faster tenanted deployments with Octopus Deploy

A Octopus Deploy Case Study

Preview of the Stack Overflow Case Study

Stack Overflow uses Config as Code in Octopus for its enterprise solution

Stack Overflow, the developer Q&A platform and provider of Stack Overflow for Teams, needed a reliable way to deploy its enterprise Teams product across Microsoft Azure, AKS and on‑premise data centers while keeping a clear separation between its public and SaaS platforms and supporting customer‑specific infrastructure. To address this, Stack Overflow adopted Octopus Deploy, using features such as Configuration as Code, Tenanted deployments, Runbooks and the Octopus API to standardize and automate deployments.

With Octopus Deploy, Stack Overflow moved to a single‑repo CI/CD model where application code, build pipelines and deployment processes live together, enabled tenanted deployments to manage per‑customer settings, and automated operations via runbooks and the Octopus API. The result was faster, more reliable deployments, easier branching and end‑to‑end testing of deployment changes via PR diffs, and clear time savings when deploying to multiple customers — plus improved developer experience and vendor support from Octopus Deploy.
